The only one I want to make a special note on, is Feferi’s.  Her outfit includes a bathing suit because, well, with there being lots of water in Acquariet, and her troll type being more aquatic, naturally she would love to swim!  Now the waterways are mostly within the Inner City, but that’s no issue for her as she is the only troll who actively moves between the two sections of the city with no trouble or worry.  Her mother is very, very, very rich and influential within the city, and spends most of her time working in Inner Acquariet, so naturally this would give her child room to move.

I am fairly certain Carrie would have not said anything like that, and I’m beginning to wonder if it was someone at a nearby table or a friend hanging out or something like that. Like you said, she doesn’t know the Homestuck fandom well enough to pass an opinion on Andrew Hussie, plus that’s just not the sort of thing she would say. Hopefully this can get straightened out without becoming much more of a witch hunt, she’s far too nice a girl to have to deal with this. Carolann’s all no nonsense so if some overzealous fan gets all shitty with her she will prob have something to throw right back, but when I messaged Carrie tonight she had literally just found out about all of this and is really upset.

Still a fair bit to do but I am hoping I can finish it tonight and tomorrow. I mean I kinda have to. Colors are a bit wonky from my lighting and the phone, more toward reddish pink than purple, the bodice is definitely like OMGPURPLE! and not that color. EDIT: Colors in the first two are more accurate since there was daylight coming in through the window, the purplest pieces toward the middle are the bodice pieces closer to the real color.

So much lace. I think I have spent well over $50 on just trimmings for the two costumes which I then had to hand dye. Why am I doing this again?

Agggh so much to do tonight DX. Ended up spending a lot more time doing adjustments and crap.

Also had a minore revelation last night. Back in the day it was like a “thing” to make amano costumes. First, just by interpreting an existing loosely drawn amano watercolor-esque drawing complete with all sorts of frills and details, some up to the imagination. Then people got tired of that and started making “amano version” of existing costumes by taking a normal costume and adding tons of frills and details to it.

Fancy dreamers is basically Amano Homestuck. Think about it.

Not that it’s a bad thing, it was just something that kind of randomly occurred to me last night while I was ironing 4 yards of lace while swearing at it and burning my fingers.

Also, may be skimping on the beading for AZ. I’ll have to see how time allows, it’s not a lot but I might be in a time crunch if I keep being super nitpicky about details especially ones that involve handsewing (which a surprisingly amount of aspects of this have)

Today was eventful, but not in a productive-for-cosplay way. Started out with a terrible migraine this morning and stayed in bed for a bit, then ended up spending 2-3 hours on a videochat thing planning out Nekocon cosplay staff stuff, then went to dye something and discovered through a series of things that my hot water heater had sprung a leak and was currently flooding my utility room. Dealt with that, shut the water off, made a call to maintenance and then went over to a friend’s house to do the dyeing. First time working with polyester dye and boy does it stink to high heaven. Stopped by another friend’s while the dyed stuff was drying to borrow her sewing machine since hers had a decorative stitch mine doesn’t that will come in handy (scallop-shaped stitch). Get a call from maintenance that they can make it out tonight so I head back to my place. Meanwhile, my friend asks her BF to get her a glass of tea from the fridge and due to some zany sort of misunderstanding he pours her a glass of dye water from the pot I left on the stove to cool. This leads to a frantic call to me and I come back and we spend some time on the phone with poison control and hopefully everything is ok because it was just part of a swallow she took without paying attention before she spit it out because it tasted bad.

Anyway, picture is the stripe fabric for eridan’s FD pants. The dye didn’t take quite as well as I wanted to, well rather, a lot of it washed out. Either I needed to do it longer or hotter (it was on high flame but not at a rolling boil which I noticed after the fact it recommended, and it said 30min to an hour and I did it about 30 min) or that’s just a poly dye thing. It was rinsing out in large quantities for like 10 minutes…and then once it dried it was a lot lighter than I hoped. Ah well, can’t really spare the time to keep messing with it DX.

So yeah, not especially productive at all. Only slightly.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances I ended up stuck without any good fake fur. Haven’t been able to find any nice long pile fur that I would be able to get in a reasonable timeframe either. Nothing locally either, Joann’s and Hancock’s fur selection is pretty lame and always is. There was definitely some at Mary Jo’s (in NC, that store is awesome, too bad it’s so far away) when I was there a few months ago but I didn’t think about it at the time.

But then I remembered I had some left over fur from my Soma costume many ages ago. At the time it was the best I could get (I randomly found it at Joann’s or maybe even Walmart), kinda weird looking and scraggly but I made do. This time I took it and thought “hey, maybe with a wash and a brush and a little attention I can tame this somewhat crappy fur into something better”. Taking inspiration from that one time I straightened an afro wig because I am insane, and it’s just as mind-numbingly tedious and I just had to take a break because my arm was going to fall off. But, I think it’s yielding a pretty nice, plush fur in the end so I guess it’s worth it. Now I just need to color it and add the ermine bits…once I’m all done brushing it out, I’m only halfway so far. Done for the night tho I think, and I bet my arms will be sore by the end, lol.

As promised WIPs for ginny this weekend. Was going to wait and do more at once, but eh. This will do for now XP

This is so strange. Used my iTunes because at work no iPod, and not only are the songs oddly appropriate and I didn’t have to skip random things like i usually do (you know we all do it at least once or twice, lol.) but like…5 or 6 of the songs are not ones I recognize…at all. I think I must have accidentally merged someone’s iTunes library with mine semi recently. Or someone gave me music that I never listened to, idk. (Like Sara Bareilles? wtf. lol)

The only one that doesn’t quite fit is birth of child set to castlevania music. but you know what? I AM OK WITH THAT. That would be awesome for my soundtrack. At least there’s only one…well I guess two if you count VGM…weeaboo pieces on there.

I have such a strange soundtrack though.

Ok, it is now t-minus one week till AZ. Will be periodically posting costume progress pics for Ginny both to keep myself in check and also so she knows what’s going on and what everything looks like.

Also just trying out this whole “ongoing cosplay WIP” thing that people do because it’s probably better in the grand scheme anyway, I’ve just always been superstitious about it like it’s bragging or something and you’re just asking for some terrible catastrophe to happen. That plus I get in the zone and taking pictures and blogging them are the last thought on my mind, but now lolsmartphone sooooo.

We’ll see. Either way this weekend needs to be cosplay sweatshop, lol.
